Russian language will take you to Yekaterinburg

Several dozen compatriot teenagers from Uzbekistan, South Ossetia, Belarus, Serbia, and Germany visited USUE as part of the Rossotrudnichestvo program “Hello, Russia!”.

The guests of Ural State University of Economics are boys and girls aged 14-18, whose parents or grandparents used to live in Russia or the USSR. All of them are winners of competitions and Olympiads for knowledge of the Russian language, history and culture of their ancestral homeland.

For many, this is not the first visit to Russia. The travel program changes every year. In 2023, in the Middle Urals, schoolchildren visited the Demidov’s old plant in Nizhny Tagil, the leaning tower of Nevyansk, the Novotrubny plant in Pervouralsk, and several universities in Yekaterinburg.

“For young people from Belarus, a trip to Moscow, St. Petersburg or some other city in the western part of Russia is not a problem,” Alexander Belyaev, a tenth-grader from school No. 8 in Grodno, explains.  “There are no legal and language barriers between our countries. So admission to a Russian university for many of my fellow countrymen is a completely common thing.”

At USUE, Alexander and his comrades had a tour of the university, were showed a food technology laboratory and a virtual room where students can run any experiments  with any reagents, and the results of a virtual experiment will be the same as if the experiment was carried out " live " .

USUE Vice-Rector for Additional Education and Career Guidance, Elena Knyazeva, and head of the USUE Office for International Cooperation, Oksana Bazhenova, told that under Rossotrudnichestvo programs , foreigners can enter Russian universities under special quotas for state-funded places. Besides, USUE has signed cooperation agreements with many universities of Uzbekistan, Belarus, Serbia, and other countries where our compatriots live today, including - in the field of academic mobility.

“Our university has examples of compatriots who have received an invitation to study under the quota of Rossotrudnichestvo not only in bachelor's or master's programs, but even in postgraduate ones,” Elena Knyazeva said. “They are provided with a place at a dormitory, a scholarship, transport discounts, and other benefits. Our university will continue to support these programs in the future.”

At the end of the meeting, students from Russia and other countries exchanged remarks on their studies. For example, it turned out that in Abkhazia there is no USE, school graduates take only a few basic exams as it was in Russia before the start of the education reform. And in Serbia or Germany, a bachelor's degree studies in many specialties take 3 rather than 4 years.

Rossotrudnichestvo has been implementing  "Hello, Russia!" program since 2014. For nine years, several thousand children of our compatriots from all over the world have visited their historical homeland. Ural State University of Economics has been participating in the program for the fifth year.
