CHESS TRIUMPH AT USUE: RAPID AND BLITZ STAGES OF GRAND PRIX OF RUSSIA HAVE ENDED

From August 11 to 13, the USUE House of Culture hosted two prestigious tournaments: the Rapid Grand Prix of Russia and the Blitz Grand Prix of Russia stage - N. Rashkovsky and B. Fradkin Cup – 2025.

RAPID GRAND PRIX OF RUSSIA: TWO DAYS OF INTENSIVE STRUGGLE (AUGUST 11-12)

The tournament was officially opened by the rector of Ural State University of Economics, Yakov Silin, and the executive director of the Chess Federation of the Sverdlovsk region, international grandmaster and honored coach Albert Stepanyan. They greeted the participants and wished them a fair contest and beautiful games.

The rapid chess tournament (time control is 10 minutes + 5 seconds) started on August 11. 150 chess players, including 5 grandmasters, 8 international masters and over 10 FIDE masters, competed for the prize fund of 500,000 rubles and cup awards.

 

 

After 11 rounds in the Swiss-system tournament, the champions in relevant categories were:

RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX BLITZ: SPEED AND PASSION (AUGUST 13)

The blitz tournament was opened by the Chairman of the Yekaterinburg Chess Federation Council, Sergey Krushinsky, and the champion and multiple prize winner of the Sverdlovsk region among men, FIDE master Pyotr Freider. The guests warmly remembered grandmasters Naum Rashkovsky and Boris Fradkin, after whom the Cup is named.

 

Despite the pouring rain that started right during the opening ceremony and made it difficult for some participants to arrive, the competition brought together 160 chess players from 15 regions. The country's strongest players, including 6 grandmasters and 8 international masters, competed in 13 rounds according to the Swiss system (time control is 3 minutes + 2 seconds).

We should pay special attention to the veteran of Sverdlovsk chess, international master Alexander Lysenko, who not only overcame the bad weather, but also won silver among veterans.
