Rector of the Ural State University of Economics Yakov Silin takes part in the 10th St. Petersburg International Economic Congress (SPEC) “Labor and the Transformation of Society: Knowledge, Creativity, Noonomics.”

According to the President of the Free Economic Society of Russia, Sergei Bodrunov, we are now witnessing the transformation of a new industrial society, which is characterized by knowledge becoming the predominant resource of social production.

Modern production is moving further and further away from the use of reproductive labor, transferring routine operations to automated and digitalized production. Traditional professions are being replaced with competencies that allow a person to quickly change his area of activity. Workers are more and more often becoming freelancers, and a variety of forms of labor organization allows for remote work.

“People are moving away from labor with ever increasing frequency, freeing up time for life and more often replacing working hours with free time, since they need less and less time to satisfy their basic needs following the increased implementation of knowledge-intensive technologies,” Sergei Bodrunov emphasized in his report.

Besides the neo-transformation of society, the participants of the congress paid special attention to the potential for the development of the creative economy in Russia and current trends in the transformation of the labor market, the role of creative industries, and the achievements of science and culture in the “reboot” of the Russian economy.

“Noonomics is one of the key topics of discussion at the congress. The Nootransition to a new society - noonomics - is being considered. Knowledge, especially scientific knowledge, is important. Interpreting knowledge in production leads to a more productive result. New technological development also pursues labor transformation. Due to what is the role of labor changing? Changing the nature of labor activity because of the transition to digitalized and automated production requires reasoning. The category of freedom is a new key to discussing the trends of the time. The growth of knowledge intensity of labor is the interpretation of knowledge in the product. We discuss all of these issues and topics today as key ones. I believe the congress unites everyone for a constructive solution to all urgent problems,” USUE rector Yakov Silin noted.

Scientists representing the country’s leading universities, RAS research institutes and other scientific and educational centers of the Russian Federation, government figures, business leaders, representatives of the civil society of Russia, and foreign experts are taking part in the congress. The congress will be open for two days, April 8 and 9.
