PUPILS OF FAMOUS SIMFEROPOL GYMNASIUM JOIN USUE CHESS CLUB

In December, when visiting the USUE territorial Access Center in the Crimea, the USUE Rector visited Simferopol gymnasium №1 named after I.V. Kurchatov. Together with the Vice-Rector for Social Work, Roman Krasnov, and the director of the Sverdlovsk region Chess Federation, Albert Stepanyan, Yakov Silin met with the director of the gymnasium Irina Grebennikova.
 
During the business visit, they reached an agreement on cooperation between gymnasium №1 named after I.V. Kurchatov and USUE, in particular, concerning general chess education. USUE rector Yakov Silin hopes that the first results of mutual interest can be seen tomorrow, December 10, during the meeting of the USUE Chess Club, which will be held online. It is planned that for the first time, Crimean gymnasium students will take part in it.  


 
By the way, at the Kurchatov gymnasium, the history of which began in 1812, many famous personalities studied in different years: physicist Igor Kurchatov, Alexander Herzen, Adolf Ioffe, marine painter Ivan Aivazovsky, and others. In 1855, a chemist Dmitry Mendeleev began teaching there.
 
At Simferopol Gymnasium No. 1, there is a Kurchatov class, whose students study according to a special curriculum, with a focus on social science and natural science subjects and learn the foundations of spiritual and moral culture of the peoples of Russia. In the future, having finished the gymnasium, perhaps, somebody of these guys will become a USUE student.
