November 18, 2024, the Yeltsin Center hosted a gala awards ceremony for the winners of the VIII regional contest “Female Face of Science”. Several nominations recognized USUE teachers, postgraduates, and students as winners.

The “Female Face of Science” contest is held to highlight the role of women in Russian science and to draw attention to the achievements of the contest participants and to the scientific developments being carried out in the Ural Federal District.

In 2024, the “Female Face of Science” collected a record number of applications with participants’ research achievements in 2023. This year, they submitted 1,307 applications. In contrast, the first competition, held in 2017 at the initiative of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Russian Union of Young Scientists, received only 130 applications.

The contest organizers selected the winners based on the significance of their scientific achievements. At the award ceremony, the laureates were greeted by Deputy Minister of Industry and Science of the Sverdlovsk region, Yulia Polshina, chairperson of the Russian Union of Young Scientists, Anna Shcherbina, and representatives of Ural leading universities, including Professor of the USUE Department of Regional and Municipal Economics and Management, Svetlana Pyankova.

In the nomination “Popularizer of Science”, the winner was Maria Goncharova, scientometrics division head of the USUE Office of Scientometrics, R&D, and Ratings. The laureate diploma and memorable gifts were presented to her by the Honorary Consul of Italy in Yekaterinburg, Roberto D’Agostino.

The winner in the nomination “For Contribution to IT Development” was Elizaveta Sokolova, a specialist at the scientometrics division of USUE Office of Scientometrics, R&D, and Ratings, assistant at the Department of Business Informatics, and a USUE first-year postgraduate student.

In the nomination “Science for Business,” the winner was a USUE postgraduate student, Ekaterina Zakolyukina. As of today, Ekaterina Zakolyukina has prepared 29 scientific publications dedicated to developing the region’s digital transport infrastructure.

“We express our gratitude to the organizers of the ‘Female Face of Science’ contest and thank the USUE Vice-Rector for Research, Viktor Kovalev, for organizing and supporting scientific life at our university,” noted the winner in the “Popularizer of Science” nomination, Maria Goncharova.

The “Female Face of Science” contest has been held in the Ural Federal District since 2017. Young scientists under 35 years of age and doctors of science under 40 years of age engaged in scientific work and research in the district’s constituent territories can enter the contest.
