Victory Waltz unites

Ural State University of Economics held an online action, Victory Waltz, for the third time. Schoolchildren, students and labor collectives from 60 cities of Russia and abroad sent videos of pair dances performed to the military-time song “Random Waltz”.

Preparations for the action began long before the holiday: already in March, a video recording of theMASTER CLASS from the director of the Victory Waltz-2022 Dmitry Samylov was posted on the official USUE channel on YouTube. Under the guidance of an experienced choreographer, online participants from all over the world learned the basic movements of the pair dance.

For three years, the geography of the Victory Waltz has expanded: it was joined by students of schools and universities and labor collectives from 57 cities of Russia and abroad. The St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation acted as a co-organizer of the action in the northern capital. The city Kungur presented the Perm region. Besides, the waltz in honor of the Victory Day was danced in Moscow, Asbest, Revda, Monino, Saransk, Nizhny Tagil, Druzhinino, Martyush, Kamensk-Uralsky, Verkhoturye, Yemetsk, Arkhangelsk, and other cities. For example, 100 students of the Maritime School of St. Petersburg in elegant costumes, distinguished by caps and aiguillettes, synchronously performed the heart-stirring dance.

To select the best performance and gather all sent records into one video, it took time that does not negate the importance and relevance of the Action.

For the first time, USUE organized an online action dedicated to Victory Day in 2020. Then, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they declared a period of self-isolation, but it was impossible to cancel the celebration of May 9: it was the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. Then USUE decided to transform the traditional Ural offline action into a remote format: “They started sending us videos recorded on ordinary gadgets. People performed smooth movements for a count of ‘one-two-three’ in rooms, in the yard, on the embankment; they danced the waltz with their loved ones: mothers, brothers, and even soft toys!” the director of the House of Culture Alla Yavorskaya notes. “It turned out to be a clip of the Victory Waltz that has sunk deep into my mind forever. This is especially true now, when patriotism and fortitude are so in demand among people who support a just cause.”

Students and labor collectives from 60 cities of Russia and abroad took part in the online action Victory Waltz.
