Yakov Silin: «He, who talks about the green economy, talks about the future!»

The theme of the International Diplomatic Forum held in the framework of XI EEYF was “Green Economy and Sustainable Development.” Its participants were representatives of foreign states invited to the forum.

Opening the discussion, USUE Rector Prof. Yakov Silin, outlined the essence and importance of the theme chosen: "He, who talks about the green economy, talks about the future!"

Andrey Sobolev, Russian Federation Trade Representative to Germany, delivered welcoming remarks. “Today's green economy is not just vague generalities but specific goals. Russia is arranging a lot of work to achieve them. For example, in accordance with the requirements of the Paris Agreement 2015, our country announced a national plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. By 2030, the plan provides for a reduction in emissions across the economy to 70% compared to the 1990 level. Today, many Russian enterprises have set a course for environmental friendliness and the development of renewable energy sources. As for European countries, for example, Germany has recognized hydrogen as a source of energy for the future and is interested in its import from Russia. The green economy should unite all countries of the world,” Andrey Sobolev said. 

In her speech, Larisa Efremova, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at RUDN University, spoke about the importance of training specialists for the green economy: “We have started a project on cluster cooperation in the field of training specialists for the most demanded spheres of the world's economies. Having done a lot of analytical work, we realized that it was necessary to concentrate international cooperation in training of master’s students and postgraduates under programs in the area of ecology."

As a reminder, the green economy is part of the concept of sustainable development, which brings together issues of economic, social, and environmental development. It is about creating an economic system that is structured to incorporate environmental and social factors. This should reduce the burden on the environment, help preserve and restore natural ecosystems, and increase natural capital. Besides, the measures of green economy imply a reduction in inequality, improvement of the quality of life and working conditions, and the availability of social services.
